Nokia and Harman -
JBL Play Up Portable
Wireless Speaker
N
okia has teamed up with Harman, a
supplier of audio systems around the
wireless audio products for
the Nokia Lumia Range. Nokia and Harman’s
JBL range will include wireless speakers
and these can work either by connecting
wirelessly to a mobile device through any
Lumia phone via Bluetooth or through the
next generation Lumia phone based on
Windows Phone 8, via NFC.
The JBL Play Up Portable Wireless
Speaker was first unveiled in Berlin, at the
IFA Consumer Electronics Show, looking
deceptively and delightfully like a brightly
coloured plastic cup. Nokia and Harman have
boasted the product as being able to radiate
sound in all directions, offering “crystal clear
sound”, and delivering “every sonic nuance of
the original recording”. Acting as a woofer
is its bass port, designed specifically to
deliver, with minimal audio air turbulence,
the best results in low end sound. The Play
Up Portable can be easily used both indoors
and outdoors, thanks to maximum output of
89
db. As part of the package comes a 3.5mm
headphone connector to connect to any
MP3 player, computer, or mobile phone.
Based on the Nokia Play 360 Wireless
Speaker’s design, the Play Up Portable is
available in four different colours - black,
white, cyan blue, and bright yellow, and
despite its appearance summoning up ideas
of fragility and flimsiness, it is actually very
durable due to its double-shot plastic body.
The Play Up Portable can play up to ten
hours of music before needing another
charge-up but it also offers a replaceable
battery, discreetly hidden in the base of the
speaker. And if that wasn’t even enough,
there are even more accessories in the form
of a 3.5mm audio cable, a micro USB charger,
and even a carrying pouch.
With this being the first of the
collaborations between Nokia and Harman,
the JBL Play Up Portable Wireless
Speaker is only the
beginning of what
could prove to be a
unique and exciting
collection.
A
pple has also unveiled
the new iPod Touch
and iPod Nano. Much like
the iPhone 5, the iPod
Touch has been hailed as
the thinnest one yet at
6
mm and with a weight of
88
grams, a 4-inch Retina
display, a 5 megapixel
iSight camera, 40 hours
of battery life, and as
a final touch, there are
five different colours to
choose from. The iPod
Nano, in seven different colours to
choose from, is the thinnest Nano to be
made so far at 5mm thick. It has a 2.5 inch
multi-touch display as well as buttons and
it even comes with Bluetooth. The iPod
Nano comes with Bluetooth-enabled
headphones and has a battery life of
30
hours. You can listen to FM radio on
the new Nano, and it even has a built-in
pedometer.
The iSight camera included in the iPod
Touch has features such as face detection,
video image stabilisation,an LED flash and,
just like the iPhone 5, a panorama feature.
The iPod Touch even comes with a
wrist strap from which the device
can hang safely when taking pictures
and videos. On the Touch you can
visit the App Store and
immerse yourself
in the availability
of
over
700,000
apps
and the iTunes
store
which
currently
offers
over 26 million
songs,
190,000
episodes of television
programmes, 45,000
movies, and 1.5 million
books. With three
new additions to the
Apple collection,many
Apple enthusiasts will
have their work cut
out as they try to decide
which of these three new gadgets is right
for them.
