GTC BEARING SYSTEM PIVOT PINS
GTC
440C stainless steel thrust ball bearings
caged in stainless steel retainers developed
by
Gustavo T. Cecchini's GTC Knives
to
reduce friction and failures, increase opening
time, and easier cleaning. The 100% stainless
steel construction eliminates the problems
of other thrust bearings that are not 100%
stainless. Install by cutting a pocket, with
a counterbore, in both the blade and frame.
Use one bearing in blade and one in the
frame. Some prefer to cut the pocket in both
frames, and not in the blade. This is a good
solution when the blade is already hardened.
Sold Each.
The Path Maker is used to provide a smooth
raceway for the thrust bearing balls to slide
along. The Path Maker is used in a drill
press to mark the raceway into the blade and
liners. This task is performed by setting your
drill press at 500 RPM and applying a light
down pressure for a few seconds. Check the
surface for marking until a circular raceway
is visible, then this task is complete. We
recommend that you complete this task to the
blade before and after heat treat to guarantee
the elimination of all tooling marks. You will
need a different Path Maker for each bearing
size and each pivot size that you use. The
final assembly should use new bearings only.
A bearing will be included with each Path
Maker.
The illustration (above left) shows the pocket
in the left liner once the procedure has been
completed. The first bearing will fit in this
pocket. The second pocket should be cut in
the blade. In final assembly (see above right),
the liner pocket and blade pocket should
be facing up when the knife is in the proper
position for assembly.
There should be a raceway path on each side
of a thrust bearing. The illustration above
shows the right liner with the raceway path
completed. This raceway matches up to the
blade pocket thrust bearing. This procedure
should be completed on both sides of the
blade. This will match up with the raceway
needed in the liner pocket thrust bearing.
When finished you will have made a raceway
path on all four bearing surfaces and you
should be ready for assembly.
Select the counterbore to fit the bearing and
pivot pin combination listed below, also listed
are the proper depths to cut the pocket.
Reamers are .0005" oversize. Ream blade
and liners for pivot pins.

Designed to press into liner for tight fit. The
body of the pivot pins are machined .0005"
undersized for proper action of your blade.
Button Head Torx screw supplied. Length
under the head is .50". Made in the USA.
Designed for installation through the bolster.
Complete installation using a T8 torx wrench
to tighten the screw supplied. Overall length
is .434", under the head is .373". Stainless
Steel
Designed to be hidden under the bolsters. Use
a T8 torx wrench to tighten. Overall length is
.240", under the head is .205". Stainless Steel.
Designed to keep hinge pins from turning
during installation and fine adjusting. The
locking liner usually has a D shaped hole for
hinge pins, however, you can place the pin
into the locking liner and interrupt the hole
next to the flat by using an auto center punch
to expand the metal, creating a protrusion to
hold the pin in place. It does not take much
stretching of the metal to keep the hinge pin
from turning. Can be used in round holes.
Precision ground 303 Stainless steel (tolerance
+/- .0005) for smooth action to work with the
GTC Bearings and on other folders. Pivot pin
comes with Torx head screws. 5/32" threaded
4-48, 3/16" and 1/4" threaded 6-48.
