Clinton Instruments will introduce a new
addition to the ST-CAL calibration system,
the Sensitivity Module, SM. This equipment
will check the spark tester’s fault detection
sensitivity and will assure compliance with
EN50356 (IEC/CEI 62230).
The system utilises a rotating spark gap that
controls arc duration and gap distance.
When the test is initiated, the SM will
produce a specific number of controlled
faults, which the spark tester must correctly
identify to meet the norm.
The sensitivity module will work with high
frequency, power mains frequency and
DC spark testers from any manufacturer.
The SM is compact and portable making it
easy to test units while they are installed in
the factory.
The operator simply selects the type of unit
to be checked and will then have visual
confirmation of the detection current and
number of faults produced via a digital
display on the front panel. Once the
procedure is started the SM will complete
the specified number of faults without
additional operator input.
The SM is offered as an accessory to the
ST-CAL voltagecalibrationunit, whichallows
voltage calibration of most common spark
test units including AC, both mains and high
frequency, as well as DC equipment. With
the ST-CAL system, spark test voltages up to
30KV AC and 40KV DC can be calibrated
easily.
The operator interface is a Windows 8
tablet computer that controls the process
as well as the printing of a certificate or by
utilising the onboard USB port to download
the test results on to a memory stick. The file
can then be kept for historical use in any
computer.
When these two units are used together
the operator will be assured that the spark
test unit will meet all known specs once the
calibration is finished.
