Our Mission
GRID-Arendal is an official United Nations Environ-
ment Programme (UNEP) collaborating centre located
in Arendal, Norway, with outposted offices in Geneva,
Ottawa and Stockholm.
Established in 1989 by the Government of Norway as
a Norwegian Foundation, GRID-Arendal’s mission is to
provide environmental information, capacity building
services, and innovative communication tools, meth-
odologies and products for information management
and outreach.
Our staff consists of a diverse team of international
professionals, consultants and board members.
Through our dynamic portfolio of global projects, we
partner with various organizations to facilitate free
access to and exchange of information in support of
sound decision making toward a sustainable future.
Our Vision
We aspire to be a centre of excellence on polar issues
for the UNEP and a leading centre for marine environ-
ment issues and global environmental information.
