Local Registration of Title (Ireland) Act, 1891.
The draft of new rules under this Act,
which is under consideration of the Local
Registration of Title Rules Committee, con–
stituted under Section 73 of the Courts of
Justice Act, 1936, was discussed, and in
particular the rules and schedule contained
therein, prescribing a new scale of costs for
Solicitors' work under the Act. The Council
has sent copies of this draft of new scale
of costs to the local Sessional Bars of Solicitors
of the Irish Free State inviting comments
thereon.
The Costs Committee
of
the
Council, which is dealing with this matter,
has had
the replies
received
from
the
Sessional Bars under consideration.
The
representative of the Society on the Rules
Committee has discussed in detail with the
Costs Committee suggested amendments to
the draft rules.
Finance Act, 1928, Section 6.
A letter was read from a member drawing
attention to delay experienced in obtaining a
certificate from an Inspector of Taxes of
payment of income tax as provided in this
section wanted in connection with a sale of
land.
It was stated that the delay was
caused by the withholding by the Inspector
of the certificate until
the whole liability
from all sources of the taxpayer had been
gone into. A letter in reply was directed
requesting further particulars.
OBITUARY.
MR. JOSEPH GLEESON, Solicitor, died on
the 1st June, 1937, at his residence, Frank–
fort Lodge, Inchicore, Dublin.
Mr. Gleeson served his apprenticeship with
Mr. Ralph R. Manning, Dublin ; was ad–
mitted in Trinity Sittings, 1892, and prac–
tised as a member of the firm of Joseph
Gleeson & Co., at 3 Palace Street, Dublin.
MR. MATTHEW GOOD, Solicitor, died on
the 9th June, 1937, at his residence, Rose
Park, Kill Avenue, Co. Dublin.
Mr. Good served his apprenticeship with
Mr. William S. Hayes, Dublin ; was admitted
in Hilary Sittings, 1897, and practised as a
member of the firm of Good and Murray,
at 3 Dawson Street, Dublin.
MR. MICHAEL J. O'CONNOR, Solicitor, died
on the 23rd June, 1937, at Wexford.
Mr. O'Connor was admitted in Michaelmas
Sittings, 1888, and practised as a member
