her stories.

Award-winning UK novelist and story writer

Jay Merill

gives us a chilling tale of Damien, a

misanthropic character inspired by Molière,

who becomes homeless. Although the writing is

contemporary, there is a picaresque feel, and a

suggestion of Mozart’s ‘Cosi fan tutte’.

These so-called British authors are right at home

in this issue with some terrific writing from

elsewhere in Europe.
