D
irector Peter Weir’s
moving account of young
men in the crucible of the
WWI battle will be available
at last on Blu-ray this month.
The release of
Gallipoli
remastered for Blu-ray and
DVD will also mark the 100
year anniversary of the Allied
campaign on the shores of
Turkey, and will boast a Limited
Collector’s Edition especially
for the occasion. This
wonderfully packaged
3-disc set contains the
remastered film as well
as extensive featurettes
and interactive features.
There will also be a
Gallipoli journal and two-up
set including a wooden kip
and two coins. An interesting
perspective will be provided through
the letters of Keith Murdoch, who was
an Australian journalist during WWI. It’s
an experience that has resonated within
his family, with Keith’s son and media
mogul Rupert Murdoch becoming one of
the producers for this classic
Australian film. First released
in 1981,
Gallipoli
stars Mark
Lee and Mel Gibson as mates
whose experiences in the
trenches of WWI have come
to symbolise the character and
sacrifices of Australians in this most
turbulent and tragic conflict. Selected
cinemas will also be screening this
remastered version of
Gallipoli
nationwide,
from April 25. The Limited Collector’s
Edition on Blu-ray and DVD will be available
in JB Hi-Fi stores from
April 15
.
