s it Easter already? The three-month gap between New Year
hangovers and chocolate overdoses feels shorter every year,
but a look at the DVD line-up for April is a telling sign that it’s
that time of year again. The big studios unleash their animated
blockbusters in time for the school holidays, while the Boxing
Day hit invariably arrives as well. There’s even a new biblical epic,
Ridley Scott’s
Exodus: Gods and Kings
, available just prior to
Good Friday, offering an alternative to blowing the dust off your
copy of
The Ten Commandments
or
Ben Hur
for the umpteenth
Easter screening. This year’s ANZAC 100th Anniversary is also
being recognised, with the Blu-ray debut of Peter Weir’s 1981
classic
Gallipoli
available in a commemorative edition (see page
14), complementing the recent release of the TV mini-series of
the same name. So if you’ve sworn off sugar and chocolate eggs
aren’t an option this Easter (what are you thinking?!), hop like a
bunny into your nearest JB store for some non-edible treats.
