UC Merced is proud to be a university where some of the
foremost scholars from around the world teach students
from across the globe. As the newest campus in the presti-
gious University of California system, UC Merced is diverse,
growing and committed to internationalizing the campus
community. Our commitment extends from all corners of
the state to all corners of the world.
Geographical diversity enriches our campus and ignites new
conversations; cultures and ideas from different parts of the
United States and abroad converge and flourish. If you are an
international student, you have valuable resources available
to you.
Global Grant
UC Merced awards a $5,000 per year ($2,500 for the fall and
$2,500 for the spring) Global Grant to qualified international
undergraduate students in UC Merced sponsored F-1 visa
status. The grant is offered to offset a portion of UC non-
resident tuition and fees for new and transfer international
students and is UC Merced’s commitment to bringing highly
qualified students from all parts of the world to Merced.

Information for International Students
The Office of International Affairs (OIA)
The Office of International Affairs (OIA) is your guide to
international resources at UC Merced. Supporting the teaching,
research and service missions of the University of California, they
aim to inspire the university community by strengthening global
understanding and by transcending borders. The office assists
individual international students and academic staff by advising
them concerning federal immigration regulations related to study
and employment.
If you need to obtain a visa to study in the United States, OIA
can help. Since early planning is key when working with lengthy
visa application processes at U.S. embassies and consulates
abroad, OIA encourages you to begin requesting a Form I-20
from UC Merced now. Visit the Resources for New Students page
at
iss.ucmerced.edu/students/newstudents
to complete the
two forms necessary for this purpose.
Feel free to contact OIA with any questions related to student
visas and other resources available for international affairs.
