Smal l diameter tubes
Hydraulic tubing for new generation
of engines
Fine Tubes, a manufacturer and global
distributor of precision tubes for critical
applications, has received final supplier
approval from Snecma, a manufacturer
of aircraft and rocket engines. This is
the start of an eight-year programme
involving the supply of nickel alloy 625,
grade 321 and titanium CP grade 2
hydraulic tubing for two major new
engine projects.
The family of LEAP
®
engines is designed
to equip short and medium commercial
jets requiring a thrust of between
20,000 and 33,000lb. Developed to
meet market demands for improved fuel
consumption and reduced maintenance
costs, variants of the engine have
already been selected by Airbus for the
A320neo, Boeing for the 737 MAX, and
COMAC, the Chinese manufacturer, for
the new C919 single-aisle aircraft.
The Silvercrest
®
engine is being
developed for large and long-range
business jets and will deliver between
9,500 and 12,000 pounds of thrust.
Incorporating some of the most
innovative technologies from Snecma
research, the Silvercrest has already
been selected by Cessna to power its
future aircraft, the Citation Longitude.
Charles Ferreira, Fine Tubes business
development manager for western
Europe, commented, “This new
collaboration will allow Fine Tubes to
bid on all Snecma/Safran’s projects,
providing a great opportunity for the
company to be involved in many
significant aerospace operations. Fine
Tubeswill also supply tubing toSnecma’s
subcontractors and subsidiaries such
as TurboMeca and Snecma HAL.”
Snecma designs, develops, produces
and markets engines, either alone or in
partnership, for commercial and military
aircraft, launch vehicles and satellites.
The company also offers a complete
range of MRO services to airlines,
armed forces and other operators.

Aluminium precision drawn tubes
Standard-Metallwerke GmbH is
an expert in the field of producing
precision drawn tubes from aluminium,
brass, copper and copper-nickel.
As a producer of aluminium precision
drawn tubes for more than 50 years,
it was a natural step to offer seamless
drawn aluminium tubes that meet the
requirements of the ASME SB241
standard. With its capabilities to
draw tubes starting from 3mm OD,
Standard-Metallwerke is able to
serve those applications that require
precision drawn tubes in a range of
up to 80-100mm OD, including the
necessary tests and documentation to
fulfil international standards.
As a producer Standard-Metallwerke
offers flexibility in size, even outside
the regular range, opening new design
options for customers especially in
the industrial area. Helmut Knaup,
technical manager at Standard-
Metallwerke, commented, “Our
company name coming from early
1919 is a bit misleading – we actually
offer ‘anything but standard’”.
Production is made on customers’
orders only, and with experience over
a wide range of aluminium alloys
such as EN-AW1050 to 7075, both
from seamless and porthole extruded
materials, clients have a number of
possibilities to find the right material for
their projects. Standard-Metallwerke
provides support in the selection and
use of materials and offers a wide
range of tube processing, including
cutting, de-burring, chamfering,
bending, forming, brazing, welding
and assembly.
