Heathers

” and added it would never have happened

without Curtis's involvement. “If you’re going to hire Jamie

Lee Curtis, you want to see her kicking ass and fighting

back and all those things that I loved her doing,” he said.

Scream Queens

will air in September.

The Expanse

Based on the multi-book series by Ty Franck and Daniel

Abraham (writing as James S.A. Corey), this new Syfy

series is poised to do for space opera what

Game of

Thrones

did for epic fantasy on TV. Set 300 years in the

future, humanity has colonised the solar system and

asteroid belt. Throw in conspiracy theories, a threat of

alien origin and a massive cast of characters, and you’ve

got all the ingredients for a gripping television event. The

first episode debuted at Comic-Con ahead of its December

premiere, and reaction

was positive. Practical

effects and enormous

sets contribute to a

fantastic looking series

that's shaping up to be

a worthy successor to

Battlestar Galactica

Deadpool

Premiere footage of Ryan

Reynolds’ passion project

sent the Hall H crowd

berserk, prompting an

encore screening. The actor

plays Wade Wilson, who is

transformed into the titular masked

mercenary by his cancer treatment.

Reynolds described the Tim

Miller-directed film as being “the

most faithful adaptation of comic

to film we’ve ever seen.” That’s a

big call, but judging by the reaction

at Comic-Con,

Deadpool

could be

the superhero sleeper hit of 2016.

The Hateful Eight

With no trailer ready yet for Quentin

Tarantino’s new film, the director

instead cut together a special seven-

minute highlights reel to present

to the Comic-Con crowd. Set in

post-Civil War Wyoming, the film

follows eight characters that seek refuge from a blizzard

in a remote stagecoach outpost. Filmed in Ultra Panavision

using “the same lenses that shot

Ben-Hur

”,

The Hateful

Eight

will open in selected cinemas in a glorious 70MM

presentation.

The Hunger Games:

Mockingjay - Part 2

Fans were treated to a look

at a new trailer featuring “A

Message from District 13”; the

final chapter in the franchise looks

to be the most intense, with Katniss

taking the fight to President Snow as

full-scale war erupts in Panem. “There were a lot of books

that went by without a war,” said Jennifer Lawrence, “we

held off as long as we could.” Director Francis Lawrence

added that the final film won't disappoint fans of the

novels. “Anyone who loves the end of the book will love

the end of the movie.” In cinemas November 19.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

You’ll have watched it countless times by now and will

surely concur – the 3 min 42 sec behind-the-scenes

compilation reel that

debuted at Comic-Con

confirms J.J. Abrams

is the right man for

the job –

The Force

Awakens

will be a

real

Star Wars film.

The director confirmed that a cut of the movie now exists

but still needs some “fine tuning” prior to its release on

December 18.

Suicide Squad

“I’m not trying to start no east coast, west coast feud with

Marvel Comics,” said

Suicide Squad

director David Ayer, “but DC

has the best villains.” He’s referring to the titular bunch – “the

most dangerous people

on the planet” – and

may have a point if the

footage screened was any

indication. The crowd’s

reaction to the Comic-Con

sneak peek suggests this

dark DC offering will be

a massive hit next year.

Watch out Marvel!

Ash vs Evil

Dead

An awesome trailer

indicates Starz’ new 10-part

series has captured all the

madcap mayhem and splatstick of

Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead film trilogy,

with star and cult hero Bruce

Campbell back in top form. With

Raimi co-writing and directing the

first episode, this is shaping up

to be every Evil Dead fan’s dream

come true. Get your chainsaws out

this Halloween, October 31, when

the show premieres.

Fear the Walking Dead

“When civilisation ends, it ends fast.” The first trailer for

the hotly anticipated prequel/spin-off series to AMC’s

hit zombie drama was revealed at Comic-Con, as well as

its premiere date of

August 23. The new

show is set in LA at

the beginning of the

zombie apocalypse

chronicled in the

Atlanta-set

The

Walking Dead

. “By the end of the season we get to see

what happened in Atlanta,” promised showrunner Dave

Erikson.

Minority Report

The first 20 mins of the pilot

episode of Fox’s spin-off

series from the 2002

Steven Spielberg film was

screened at Comic-Con. Set

10 years later, the Pre-Crime

DC division has since been shut

down and the precogs are now in

hiding. Young precog Dash (Stark Sands)

is struggling with visions of the future while trying to

lead a normal life, and teams up with a detective to put

his powers to good use. The series is set to premiere in

September.

Scream Queens

American Horror Story

creator

Ryan Murphy premiered the
