NEWS
H
i-hi music fans, it's your new captain speaking. The revered
Jonathan Alley has left the cockpit; actually he's parachuted right
out into documentary filmmaker land, to go on safari adventures
across the life and times of The Triffids' late frontman David McComb.
Good luck old mate, and thanks for everything. Meanwhile, we're
continuing through the clouds; look, there's one shaped like the first The
Basics album in six years (pg 92), another resembling the glass brick
Faraday Memorial on the cover of The Maccabees'
Marks to Prove It
(pg
86), and yet another which looks like the turn-ups on Mac DeMarco's
dungarees (pg 90). Isn't air travel magical? Barf bags are in your seat
pocket; have a lovely day.

Surf-rock revivalist Bra

Suspiria

ywith the heavy strings and strange piano
on this new release, amongst the usual
thick drums, lazy ride, mangy voice and
crunchy guitars.
Georgia
Georgia
The precision of the
electronic beats versu
sthe ethereal, flawed
voice of Georgia (flawed in a cool way
–
sometimes she's flat or croaky or overly
breathy) evokes FKA Twigs, on this gal's
excellent debut.

Hermits On Holiday
Drinks are Cate Le
Bon and Tim Presley,
and their amazing
postpunk debut is basica

Ramones-type drums, plus sick
lyrics. Super great.
On An On
And The Wave Has
Two Sides
There's a hidden magic
pulse threaded through
these pretty and
emotive tracks from the Minnesotan trio,
like a whale's heartbeat (or some such
delightful allegory).
