Solicitors' Accounts (Amendment)

Regulations, 1971

STATUTORY INSTRUMENT S.I. No. 196 of 1971

The Incorporated Law Society of Ireland in exercise

of the powers conferred upon them by Sections 4, 5, 66

and 71 of the Solicitors Act, 1954, and of every other

power thereunto them enabling and with the concur-

rence of the President of the High Court hereby make

the following regulations.

(1) These regulations may be cited as the Solicitors'

Accounts (Amendment) Regulations, 1971.

(2) In these regulations the term "the Principal Regu-

lations" means the Solicitors' Accounts Regulations,

1967 (S.I. No. 44 of 1967).

(3) These regulations shall be read together with the

Principal Regulations, the Solicitors' Accounts (Amend-

ment) Regulations, 1970 (S.I. No. 94 of 1970), and the

Solicitors' Accounts (Amendment No. 3) Regulations,

1970 (S.I. No. 231 of 1970), and shall so far as they are

inconsistent therewith alter and amend the same.

(4) The Solicitors' Accounts (Amendment) Regula-

tions, 1970 (S.I. No. 94 of 1970), are hereby revoked.

(5) These regulations shall come into operation on

the 24th day of June 1971 and may be cited collectively

with the Principal Regulations and the Solicitors'

Accounts (Amendment No. 3) Regulations, 1970, as the

Solicitors' Accounts Regulations, 1967-1971.

(6) The following schedule is hereby substituted for

the first schedule to the Principal Regulations.

The regulations terminate the temporary arrangements

for the opening of client bank accounts with named

British and Scottish clearing banks and branch banks

in Northern Ireland of Irish associated banks which

were in force during the cessation of banking facilities.

Examinations

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO CANDIDATES

Candidates will be permitted during examinations to

refer to certain statutes and statutory instruments under

the following conditions, (a) Paper on Company Law,

The Companies Act, 1963; (b) Paper on Tax Law, The

Income Tax Act, 1967, with any amending Finance

Acts and the Acts and Orders relating to Death Duties

(Government Publications Sales Office, £1.25).

The conditions are as follows :

(1) Candidates should purchase their own copies.

(2) The publications clearly marked with the name

and table number of the candidate must be handed to

the supervisor thirty minutes before starting time.

(3) Where, as in the case of paper No. 9, there is

more than one document they should be tied together

and accompanied by a list, both the list and each docu-

ment being clearly marked with the candidate's name

and table number.

(4) Annotation or other markings on the statutes or

documents used is not permitted and documents will

be impounded for any breach of this condition.

Item (a) will apply to the examination in Autumn

1971. Items (a) and (b) will apply from February 1972

until further notice.
