Lectures on Professional Ethics
AT the request of the Council Messrs. Barrett and
Tyrrell each agreed to deliver a lecture on the rights,
duties and responsibilities of solicitors
to
the
apprentices' Course C Class.
Costs of Lease
THE Council considered on a report from a Com
mittee a query as to the appropriate scale of costs
chargeable on the granting of a lease of premises
in the city of Dublin under the provisions of Section
20 of the Landlord and Tenant Act, 1931.
The
lease was dated I3th January, 1949, for a term of
99 years from 6th May, 1949, subject to the yearly
rent of £100, lessees paying all rates and taxes. The
lease was a renewal of a lease dated 1864 for 85
years subject to the yearly rent of £28 which will
expire on 6th May, 1949.
The rent of £100 was
fixed by agreement between the parties on the basis
of the rent which would have been fixed by the
Court under Part 3 of the Landlord and Tenant
Act, 1931. The Council expressed the opinion that
the rent of £100 was a rack rent, and that the costs
should be charged on the scale appropriate thereto.
Unqualified person drawing a Lease
ON a report from a committee it was ordered that
subject to counsel's advice proceedings should be
instituted against
an unqualified person, who
described himself as an accountant, for a breach of
Section 3 of the Conveyancers' (Ireland) Act, 1864,
by drawing a letting agreement for or in expectation
of fee or reward.
