ETHICAL DECISION MAKING

You authorise a medical test to ensure a Client`s recovery:

Principle of Beneficence

You do with the full knowledge that the test will result in pain

and discomfort to the Client:

Principle of Non-malfeasance

The Principles of Beneficence and Non-malfeasance are in

conflict with one another (they are inconsistent)

You must make an ethical prioritisation between the two (2)

options (of action) that is in the best interests of the Client

Option 1: Authorise the medical test

Option 2: Refrain from causing harm (pain) and forgo the test
