We caught up with the lucky winner of 20th Century Fox’s
‘Win aTrip to Comic-Con’
competition, SARAH FARRELL from
the Gold Coast. She’s also a film PA who recently worked on
Thor: Ragnarok
, so should feel quite at home at SDCC.

What DVD did you buy that won
you the trip?
Stargate: SG-1
. It’s been a
favourite of mine for a while. I
remember laughing at it when I
was a kid. Richard Dean Anderson
was my favourite character in that
show; he had the best one liners.
Which JB store did you purchase
it from?
Pacific Fair.
Was Comic-Con on your bucket
list?
Yes, definitely, for the last ten
years or so.
What’s on top of your list to see
at while you’re here?
The DC panel. I’d like to get
some autographs from the guys
from
Supernatural
, too. I’ve been
following that show since 2005
and I’d love to get the little Impala
model and get them to sign it. I
was really hoping to go and see
the Nerd HQ panels, but they
decided not to turn up this year –
they couldn’t get the funding. That
was also on my wish list.
Are you after any exclusive
merchandise?
No, I didn’t have my heart set
on anything. These people are
veterans; they come in and know
exactly where to go and what to
do. I’d like to look around and see
what catches my eye. Maybe drop
over by the Funko booth and see if
I can get some Pop Vinyls. I’ve got
a friend who’s requested a lot of
Pokémon.
What’s been the highlight so far?
Just the excitement. Everyone
here is considered equal. No one is
picking on anyone, everyone’s just
having a really good time and I love
just being involved.

stack.com.auWhat did you do on
Thor:
Ragnarok
?
I was the locations
department PA and I just did
whatever I was told [laughs].
Mostly crowd control, especially
when we were up in Brisbane,
making sure everyone was safe
behind the barriers. That was
my primary role.
The prize was for two people,
so who did you bring?
My mum. We both deserved
a break, so I just said ‘come
with me.’
FOOD & DRINK
With so much to cover at Comic-Con, one frequently forgets
to eat. Fortunately, there are so many eateries lining San
Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter just across the road from the
Convention Centre, you can grab a bite at any time. And in the
middle of the American summer, a frozen margarita or two is
just the ticket to cool off after a long day in the Exhibit Hall –
especially when Happy Hour runs for three hours!

Zombie Shark
in less time and for less money than it took to do
Jaws
."
