not meet the comprehensive safety

requirements.”

The LSZH wire and cable is also said

to provide improved dielectric strength,

capacitance and impedance for an

improved electrical performance.

New copper–clad fastener

Thomas & Betts has designed its UL listed

Blackburn copper–clad aluminum lugs

and splices for termination on copper-clad

aluminum (CCA) cable. Made of aluminum,

the lugs and splices are compatible with

the company’s Hex–Flex die system, an

indent–style crimping system that enables

die identification on the crimp and

features a color–keyed compression system

to ensure secure connections.

CCA cable is lighter and more flexible than

copper, and only slightly heavier than bare

aluminum, which can be a challenge when

terminating with conventional terminals

and crimping methods. The new lugs and

splices efficiently compress CCA cable,

and with an oxide inhibitor pre–applied in

the barrels are said to offer both maximum

pull–out force and longevity.

Brian Burke, product manager at Thomas

& Betts, commented: “Because [Blackburn

copper–clad aluminum lugs and splices]

are compatible with our Hex–Flex die

system, they offer 20 percent more pull–

out force than competitor die sets, as well

as fewer crimps per barrel, which reduces

installation time and labor costs.”

Blackburn copper–clad aluminum lugs and

splices are currently available for 750 and

800kcmil wire ranges, with additional sizes

to be released.

Rugged instrumentation cable

TPCWire &Cable Corp has launched a new

line of encoder/resolver cables under its

Chem-Gard brand of extreme temperature

andchemically resistant cable. Chem-Gard™

200 Encoder/Resolver cable is designed as

individually shielded pairs with an overall

braid shield, initially available in conductor

sizes from 18AWG to 24AWG and up to 9

pairs. The cable is commonly used in high

temperature or chemical applications for

control or instrumentation such as in steel

plants, foundries, food processing plants

and paper/pulp mills.

The encoder/resolver cable is UL recognized,

CSA certified and RoHS compliant,

flame-tested to FT1/VW-1 and rated at 600

volts. The cable has a fluoropolymer jacket

to protect against cutting and abrasion,

finely stranded nickel plated copper

conductors for improved flexibility, high

temperature performance and corrosion

resistance, and a heavy duty combination

of nickel plated copper braid and

aluminum/Mylar foil shield.
