O
zploitation is back! Zombies were
recently resurrected in
Wyrmwood:
Road of the Dead
, and now the slas
hermovie is given a distinctly Aussie makeover
inCharlie’s Farm
. A throwback to the sub-genr
e’s1980s heyday, writer-director Chris Sun has
crafted a worthy – and bloody – modern day
successor to campfire horror stories like
Fri
daythe 13th
,
The Burning
,
Madman
, et al.
“I have always been a fan of slasher films and wanted
to create my own slasher/killer franchise,” says Sun, “and
I felt Australia has never had a true iconic killer like Jason,
so I wanted to be the first.”
A successful slasher movie must have a memorable
maniac, and
Charlie’s Farm
features “7 foot, 170 kgs
of pure Aussie killing machine” in the shape of Charlie
Wilson, played by former pro wrestler and man-mountain
Nathan Jones (who can also be seen in
Mad Max: Fury
Road
).
You know the drill – a group of young thrillseekers
decide to spend the weekend at an abandoned farmhouse
in rural Australia, a “dark and evil place” where, legend
has it, a series of gruesome murders were committed
decades ago. But of course it’s no legend… let the body
count begin!
Much machete mayhem and a horribly convincing
castration scene will please gorehounds, as will the
presence of horror icons Bill Moseley (Chop Top in
Texas
Chainsaw Massacre 2
) and Kane Hodder (Jason
Voorhees himself). Rounding out the US cast
is
Sharknado
star Tara Reid, who’s no stranger
to the genre, having made her film debut in
Larry Cohen’s
A Return to Salem’s Lot
(1987),
aged 10. Reid has also appeared in
Urban
Legend
(1998) and admits to being a big
fan of ‘80s slasher movies.
“Those films are classics;
Charlie’s
Farm
was the kind of scary movie that
I love, so I was excited to do the film,”
she tells

Having worked with Aussie filmmakers
Jamie Blanks and now Chris Sun, both rabid
fansof the genre, Reid agrees it’s guys like
thiswho make the best horror movies. “They
loveit. They know it so well it’s unbelievable,”
shesays. “They know everything about it.
Theyknow their shots and every word,
every character, every actor; they’re like
encyclopedias of horror.
“They know what they want, they have a vision and
you, as an actor, understand that vision. It’s clear,” she
continues. “Their passion and excitement, it’s electrifying;
you get their energy. It’s just really fun to make and shoot
with someone so dedicated to their film.”
Reid is confident that horror fans will have a blast with
Charlie’s Farm
. “People love horror. It has one of the
biggest cult followings in the world. I think people will
really dig it!”
The eagerly anticipated third
and final film in the notorious
The Human Centipede trilogy
will be crawling into Australian
cinemas this June in a series of
one-off screenings launching
the inaugural ‘Monster Fest
Presents’ theatrical program,
and proudly co-presented by
STACK
.
The Human Centipede 3
(Final Sequence)
delivers
the ultimate horror movie
abomination – a 500-person
centipede, fashioned from the
population of a US prison by
its demented warden and his
sidekick – played by HC 1&2
stars Dieter Laser and Laurence
R. Harvey.
Harvey will be at each of the
special screenings to introduce
the film, which will be followed
by Q&A and signing sessions.
“I’m delirious about coming
down to Australia once again,”
he said. “Making the film was
so much twisted fun and it’ll be
brilliant to share the madness
with fans in my home away
from home, Australia. See you
all in June.”
