Mill machinery from Rafter Equipment

RAFTER

Equipment

Corporation

manufactures tube mills, pipe mills, roll

forming machines, flying cutoff, and

other related mill machinery.

A large proportion of the company’s

business includes the retrofit and

replacement of common tube mill

components. These include driven

roll stands, idle side roll stands, weld

squeeze boxes and turkshead type

straighteners.

Rafter

Equipment

Corporation also provides weld upset

bead removal equipment such as OD

bead trimmers.

Rafter has recently introduced a

newly designed OD bead trimmer unit.

The goal of the new design is to increase

the unit’s long-term serviceability and

ease operator adjustments.

This was accomplished by enclosing

the working parts of the unit inside

the main-frame and adding covers to

both the sliding ways and the frame

assembly itself.

The tool height adjustment hand

wheel has been relocated from the

top to the bottom side of the unit,

safely away from the trimmed bead

path. This adjustment is now also

closer to the operator’s position. The

tool holder assembly includes cross-

centring adjustment from the side as

well. The tool holder assembly is easily

customisable to accept the customer’s

existing tool holders. The existing quick-

lift mechanism has been retrained

because it has proved extremely

beneficial in terms of extended trim tool

life.

Originally started in 1917 as a

roll forming machine builder, the

company was purchased, relocated

and transformed into a tube mill

manufacturer in 1988.

Since this time, Rafter Equipment has

provided nearly 100 tube mills and more

than 400 mill accessory upgrades. The

company’s focus is on providing robust

equipment that is simple to operate and

maintain.
