standing, how ever, all these incentives to disease,
and invitations, as it were, for the C holera to take
up its abode here, it is a rem ark able fact th at this
dreadfu l scourge has never y et visited C openhagen.
T his h a s been endeavoured to be accounted for by
som e to the absence of rivers and the presence of
constant gales.
So frequent are strong w inds here
th a t a w itty Am erican once rem arked. "T h ere w as
w ind enough in D enm ark for a country ten tim es
its size.”
T h e s e , h o w e v e r, cannot solely account
for the non -visitation o f the cholera — we m ust
acknow ledge the h and of P ro v id e n c e , and be
thankful.
