International cooperation
and visibility is vital
to ensure
that Section UK remain at the
forefront of the IPA.
Vice-President Sean Hannigan accepted an
invitation from Section Sweden to attend their
National Board meeting.
Sean arrived in Gothenburg and had a
sightseeing drive to where the Board meeting
was being held. En route he held discussions
with the Swedish President May-Britt Rinaldo
and Britt Hermansson, a Regional Officer.
The discussions included looking at how both
Sections market the IPA and how retention and
recruitment work within Section UK and Sweden.
After arriving mid-afternoon on Friday an
informal dinner evening was held where the
Regional Officers and National Board members
met up. Sean met his opposite Vice-Presidential
number in terms of Gimborn links and had an
opportunity to discuss and develop two seminar
ideas to be presented as English speaking
Seminars with Swedish participation.
The following Saturday morning Sean was
invited to attend the first session of the Swedish
National Board and give a report to the
Swedish IPA Officers on how the Section
UK National Executive Committee (NEC)
and National Council Meeting (NCM) work.
He was asked to speak about Gimborn
opportunities and speak about the
NCM 2016 in Belfast, which will see 40
members from IPA Sweden come over for
a visit before and during the NCM.
Sean then went with several IPA members
not involved in the afternoon session to the
National Air Museum, at Linkoping. After a tour
round the museum and a spot of afternoon hot
chocolate with new friends it was back to the
hotel for the official evening function.
Sean presented May-Britt with a Kevin Troop
signed book ‘Service Through Friendship’ - the
story of his father Arthur Troop.
Section UK NEC held a meeting in Poznan
and were kindly hosted by Section Poland,
and in particular the Secretary General,
Arek Skrzypczak who stayed with them
throughout the duration of their stay.
The meeting venue helped cement further
cooperation between the Section UK and
Poland on a number of issues such as the
professional exchange programme, a joint
seminar at Gimborn, and an invitation to
partake in a football tournament amongst
other things.
