to her without issues, Mike & Hilde noted some minor differences between

their calculations and a few cells in the spreadsheet. Mike will collaborate with

Hilde to forward notes to Paul. Jane’s task is in progress and Caryn will begin

shortly. Paul emphasized that any volunteers do their own work with reference

to Appendix J only and not the Excel sheets’ calculations.

Revising our committees’ TOR (OMB requested)

The discussion on the latest version of this updated document

{TOR 12-12-16 (3)}

continued. In particular the phrase “… two thirds vote…” appears three times in

the document and there was considerable discussion of the need/accuracy for

the phrase and the consequence of the quorum- arithmetic as it relates to

common practice and

Robert’s Rules of Order.

Qian gave the example that it

might be possible that only 4 committee-attending members at a given meeting

could vote to accept something being considered that the other members would

not approve. Karen and Paul offered that we make the cutoff at 50%. The idea

of having a non-voting Ex Officio member is not acceptable practice

.

Nevertheless, an easy decision could not be reached within the time of this

conference call and Deborah will re-consider possible options per AOAC

practice. Additionally, Robert thought it would be a useful reference point to

know the number of quorums from last year’s calls. Mike will make a table of

this within a week and submit to Deborah to aid in revisions.
