PRESIDENT AND VICE-PRESIDENTS

Mr. Brendan A. McGrath, Dublin has been

elected President for 1970/71. Messrs. James

O'Donovan, Cork, and Peter Prentice, Dublin,

have been elected Vice-Presidents.

ORDINARY GENERAL, MEETING

An ordinary general meeting of the Society

was held in the Library, Solicitors' Buildings,

Four Courts Dublin on Thursday, 19th Novem

ber 1970.

1. The President took the chair at 2.30 o'clock.

2. The notice convening the meeting was by

permission taken as read.

3. The minutes of the ordinary general meeting

held on 14th May 1970 were by permission

of the meeting taken as read and were signed

by the Chairman.

4. The Secretary read the report of the scru

tineers of the ballot for the Council for the

year 1970-71 as published hereunder. The

President declared the result of the ballot in

accordance with the scrutineers report, as

follows: —

The following candidates were duly nominated

as provincial delegates in accordance with bye-

law 29 (a) of the Society and were .returned un

opposed.

Ulster: John C. O'Carroll.

Munster: Thomas E. O'Donnell.

Leinster: Christopher Hogan.

Connaught. Patrick J. McEllin.

A meeting of the scrutineers was held on

Thursday, 12th November 1970 at 11 o'clock.

The poll was conducted from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

and the scrutiny was subsequently held. The

result of the ballot was as follows:

761 envelopes containing ballot papers were

received.

Valid poll was 761.

The following candidates received the number

of votes placed after their names:— 1. Patrick

Patrick Noonan, 555; 4. John Carrigan, 546; 5.

Moya Quinlan, 542; 6. Senator John J. Nash, 519;

Lanigan, 500; 11. Brendan A. McGrath 492;

12. Bruce St. John Blake, 489; 13. John Maher,

484; 14. Thomas J. Fitzpatrick, 473; 15. Augustus

Cullen, 464; 16. Joseph L. Dundon, 451; 17. Peter

E. O'Connell, 448; 18. Gerard M. Doyle, 446;

19. Peter D. M. Prentice, 446; 20. James W.

O'Donovan, 445; 21. James R. C. Green, 441;

22. George A. Nolan, 436; 23. Thomas Valentine

O'Connor, 443; 24. Desmond Moran, 430; 25.

The foregoing candidates were returned elected

as ordinary members of the Council for 1970-71.

The following candidates also received the number

of votes placed after their names: — 32. Norman

34. Thomas Jackson Jnr., 336; 35. Brian Kings-

bury Overend, 273; 36. Martin E. Marren, 270;

37. Conal J. Clancy, 267; 38. Patrick J. B.

Madigan, 175; 39. Raymond V. H. Downey, 165;

40. Thomas Joseph Colgan, 116.

The President declared the result of the ballot

in accordance with the Scruitineer's Report.

5. On the motion of Mr. Noonan, seconded by

Mr. McCarron, the audited accounts and

balance sheet for the year ended 30th April,

1970 circulated with the agenda were adopted.

The President signed the accounts.

6. On the motion of Mr. Taylor, seconded by

Mr. Prentice, Messrs. Cooper Brothers &

Co. were appointed auditors to the Society.

7. The President proposed the adopting of the

Report of the Council for the year 1969-70.

The motion was seconded by Mr. P. C.

Moore. The President, in reviewing the work

of the Council for the past year, then said: —

Ladies and Gentlemen:

In accordance with precedent, I as your

President, move the adoption of the report of

the Council for the year 1969/70. During the

year now coming to a close a number of your

professional colleagues has gone to their eternal

rest. We mourn them all but I must mention in

particular Mr. "Pa" O'Donnell who so recently

occupied this chair with great distinction and

whose loss we on the Council feel most keenly

and Mr. John Halpin also a former President

who gave sterling service on the Council until his
