Acquisition of practice. Notice to clients.
A member took over the practice of another
solicitor who continued in Ms employment as an
assistant. Two other employees of the last men
tioned solicitor had been appointed as executors
of a number of wills drawn by him. They had
left his employment and no longer had any con
nection with the acquired practice.
The Council on a request for guidance stated
that there would be no objection to the issue of a
a letter to clients of the practice informing them
that it had now been taken over by member and
enquiring whether they wish to revise their testa
mentary dispositions by changing the executors or
otherwise.

Estate duty provisional assessments
It was decided to send a deputation to meet
the representatives of the Revenue Commissioners
Estate Duty branch with a view to discussing the
problem of having assessments for death duties
made on the value of property as contained in the
Inland Revenue affidavit in order to expedite the
issue of grants of probate and administration with
an undertaking by the solicitors for the executors
to bring in additional assets or values as ascer
tained.
Examiner and lecturer in book-keeping
Mr. Patrick Kevans, A.C.A., was appointed in
place of Mr. Thomas Donaghy who recently re
signed.
Legal remuneration — Central Costs
Committee
A deputation was
appointed
to meet
the
Minister for Justice for further discussions.
European Economic Community
A memorandum from the Secretary was consid-'
ered. It was decided to send a deputation to meet
the Minister for Justice and the Minister of
Foreign Affairs and to hold consultations with the
Bar.
Land Commission receivable orders
Members drew attention to the inconvenience
caused to the public by the new form of receiv
able order which does not state the name of the
registered owner or the folio number of the hold
ing. It was decided to request the Department to
include these particulars in future.
Lease and counterpart
On a request for a ruling the Council stated
that in the absence of a stipulation to the con
trary the solicitor for the lessor prepares the lease
and counterpart.
The practice has not been
changed by the Landlord and Tenant (Ground
Rents) Act 1967.
Solicitor's retaining fee
Members wrote stating that they had accepted
