• APBI emerged over the past 2 decades as a new
method to deliver more focal radiation to only a
portion of the breast in a shorter time period
• Multiple clinical trials were initiated to examine the
equivalence of APBI to WBI, however many patients
were treated before results of these trials published
• There is a need to provide guidance for patients
selection criteria and best practices for the use of
APBI outside the confines of a clinical trial.
