The Oliver Hill Mentoring Program is named in honor of Oliver W. Hill, a Roanoke native and civil rights

attorney at the forefront of public school desegregation. His values of equality and education are

the core principles of the Oliver Hill Mentoring Program. In this program, volunteers and children are

matched in one-to-one relationships and visit with each other for one hour weekly for one year at the

Oliver Hill house, located at 401 Gilmer Avenue in Roanoke.

Bigs and Littles in this program will meet for a pre-scheduled outdoor event once a month, allowing

the Little to have access to outdoor activities in all four seasons. Each season requires different skills,

tools, and knowledge; exposing children to different obstacles and opportunities throughout the year

will give them a deeper understanding of outdoor education. Roanoke’s gorgeous outdoor locations

will offer a beautiful backdrop for creating meaningful mentoring relationships.
