Who we are and what we do
GRID-Arendal is a centre of excellence that keeps an
eye on our rapidly changing environment – at the
poles and in mountain regions, in the oceans and river
basins, on shorelines and on land. Our 34 staff and
consultants grapple with interrelated challenges such as
climate change, wildlife poaching, illegal waste disposal,
joint management of rivers and seas, and the need for
developing countries to be able to monitor and report on
the state of their environment.
During 2015 GRID-Arendal worked on 100 projects
organised in eight programme areas:
• Blue Carbon
• Environmental Crime
• Green Economy
• Marine and Coastal Resources
• Marine Spatial Planning
• Polar and Mountain Environments
• State of the Environment Reporting, and
• Transboundary Waters.
