Short Term Disability
The Council provides short-term disability to employees that experience a health condition requiring time
away from the workplace for longer than five (5) business days for up to 90 calendar days based upon a
physician’s written documentation and approval by Sun Life. Employees will receive 90% of their base
salary (up to $5,200 per week) for 12 weeks, upon completion of a five (5) day waiting period.
Long Term Disability
The Council provides employees with Long Term Disability (LTD) coverage to protect their financial security
should they become medically disabled and lose their ability to financially support their family. Employees
are eligible to participate in the LTD Plan the first of the month coincident with or following their date of hire.
The LTD plan provides employees with continuation of their base salary should they become medically
certified as disabled. Employees are eligible for the continuation of 60% of their salary in LTD earnings up
to $20,000 per month. This amount is reduced by their Social Security benefits and the amount they may
be eligible to receive from other insured programs such as Unemployment Insurance and Workers’
Compensation.
