Presenters:
Mari Caulfield,
Speech & Language Pathologist
& Kathy Walmsley,
Occupational Therapist
The Developmental, Individual Difference, Relationship-Based model (DIR®), a theoretical & applied framework for comprehensive
intervention, examines the developmental capacities of children in the context of their unique biologically based processing profile,
their family relationships and interactive patterns. Floortime is the tool at the heart of a DIR® program, & is the process of interacting
in a continuous back and forth manner, following the child’s lead, first establishing a foundation of shared attention, engagement,
simple & complex gestures & problem solving to then bring the child into the world of ideas & abstract thinking.
This training offers a unique opportunity to experi nce an integrated approach to the child’s
sensory processing capacities, emotional development& developmental language acquisition.
Mari and Kathy have been co facilitating previous trainings since 2008 and are delighted to be working together again in 2014.
Participants will leave these trainings inspired with practical strategies to bring back to their workplace.
“The DIR®model provided me with a whole new way of working with children and families. Kathy and Mari
have an enormous amount of experience and generate such positive energy and warmth as they take you
through the components of the DIR ®model and the Floortime approach
