So
You Think You’re A Dylan
Fan
, we meet Adnan Kadric,
a devotee who has followed
Bob Dylan around Australia on
several tours…
on the train
.
“This is why I don’t have a
mortgage,” the Media Manager
at Watergardens JB tells us of
the last Dylan roadtrip, which
encompassed nine shows in
and the [cover] photo is beautiful,
shot out in St Kilda beach! Really
gorgeous.”
Dylan’s a big part of Kadric’s
own vinyl collection; along with
his second pressing of
Blonde
On Blonde
, Kadric counts his
original pressing of Ryan Adams’
Heartbreaker
, on Lost Highway
Records, as his #1. “It’s probably
my most cherished record – best
break-up or falling-in-love album
of all time,” he says.
Though the Top 20 do well at
Watergardens, the inclusion of
vinyl into the store’s product line
two months ago has spurred a
particular affinity between Kadric
and customers. “Me and [my
colleague] order in our speciality
vinyl, and we order a lot of alt-
country; we’ve got our particular
customers who we order for.
They’re coming in to buy Steve
Earle, some Willy Mason, some
Justin Townes Earl, Drive-By
Truckers, Jason Isbell. We’ve got
a nice little alt-folk, alt-country
niche here.” The reason for vinyl’s
continuing rise is clearer than
crystal to Kadric: “The market is
definitely there, and the sound is
just undeniable,” he says. “The
proof is in the pudding; vinyl
is still the best sound you can
possibly get when it comes to
music.”
four states. Dylan is one of the
primary figures who inspire
Kadric’s own band, Backyard,
along with “Paul Kelly and a bit
of Real Estate,” he proffers, by
way of Australiana-indie-dream-
pop-folk.
Paul Kelly’s new record,
Life
Is Fine
, is one of those he’s
anticipating this month. “I’m
definitely looking forward to it –
