NEW BUSINESS
Flag Project:
Commodore, Pat Carroll
Back in January, after being told that P/C Joe Cox should have been on the Beacon Cover Page, I started
looking at all of the club traditions. There are too many to mention, but one thing hit me like a brick:
there is no written list of traditions. I thought it was coincidence that we had talked about our club’s
poor handling of records and our history. Looking further, I found that many traditions that are held
without question are contrary to our By-Laws. It is because of these findings that I have established a
Traditions Committee.
In trying to come up with a way of sorting this out, I asked the Flag to nominate one P/C and one long
time member (at least 20 years of Club Membership). This team, which I trust will have a good memory
and vision of what has driven our Traditions and By-Laws, along with the Flag, will get together and
attempt to separate tradition from By-Law. The end goal envisioned is a book of Traditions that does
not conflict with our By-Laws. There are By-Laws that will require change and a member vote, and the
Traditions Committee will present these to the By-Laws Committee for consideration.
I have no intention of disrupting this year’s Committees and their duties, as change does not come
quickly or easily, and we as a Board have already approved this year’s committees.
The Traditions Committee is as follows:
Commodore Pat Carroll
V/C Randy Pagel
R/C Ian Blackburn
P/C Paul Jarvis
Ron Kemp
P/C Rick Romatz
