lovers! How was your

Splendour? Did you

kick it in the grass? We sure

did, and the highlights came

thick and fast. As predicted,

Sampa The Great, DMA’s,

Violent Soho and The

Avalanches absolutely ruled

the first day; the latter did

proffer a few divisive moments

during the set – including

mixing perennial favourite

Frontier Psychiatrist

with

Gnarls Barkley’s 2006 hit

Crazy

– but the overall awe at finally

seeing the band in the flesh

was palpable. Day two saw the

royalty included Courtney

Barnett, Flume, James Blake,

REMI and personal faves The

Internet, whom I was lucky

enough to then see a couple

of days later at their

Melbourne sideshow. Coming

up this month, we’re looking

forward to alt-blues prodigy

D.D Dumbo and indie

American rockers Grouplove;

in late August there’s the

always brilliant Ben Folds

following young Tassie punks

Luca Brasi; and in early

September ethereal singer-

songwriter Vera Blue and the

beloved Paul Dempsey will be

sure-fire hits. Get on out there!

And until next time, keep your

head in the music.
