Statistical reconstruction methods in X-ray CT

Statistical reconstruction methods

(also

referred to as iterative reconstruction (IR)

methods) have recently re-emerged in x-ray

computed tomography (CT).

• They were successfully used in the early years

of CT, but given up because of the high

computational demands of statistical methids

compared to filtered backprojection.
