Energy chain for extreme dynamics with very low noise
igus
has developed the E6.1 series of
e-chains for applications where very low-
abrasion energy chains are required, for
example in the clean room in semiconduc-
tor manufacture. As with the predecessor
series E6, instead of a pin/bore connection,
elastic polymer spring elements in the
side elements serve as connectors for a
dampened and very smooth running of the
chain. The very small pitch and contour of
the chain links ensure that the polygonal ef-
fect is reduced to a minimum and the chain
rolls very smoothly. Thanks to the narrower
design compared to the E6, roughly 30%
can be saved with the same inner dimen-
sions. "Further advantages of this design
principle are a very quiet and extremely
low-vibration operation with only 32 dB(A),"
explains Harald Nehring, authorised officer
for e-chainsystems at igus. "This makes
E6.1 series energy chains very suitable for
use in stage technology or inTV studios, in
addition to applications in the clean room."
The e-chains of the E6.1 series can also be
used for applications with speeds of up to
20m/s. Fromnow on, chains in four different
dimensions are available from 29 mm up to
62 mm in height. An even larger version of
the E6.1 with an inner height of 80 mm will
follow shortly.

Fit-for-purpose solar cables
Helukabel
developed appropriate cable solutions for photovoltaic
applications in the early 1990s with the development of its first pho-
tovoltaic (PV) cables which are still marketed under the well-known
Solarflex trademark. These carry global approvals fromTÜV andVDE.
In combination with its state-of-the-art PV-connectors, the company
offers users in the photovoltaic industry with pre-assembled PV-
cables and wires for quick plug-and-play on-site installation.
These pre-assembled solutions include chains, PV wiring fuse/
diode, pre-assembled potential equalization cables, adapters and
other fit-for-purpose photovoltaic cables. Components in the solar
range include panel boxes, male and female connectors and branch-
es with a host of accessories that include cable glands, protection
tubes, shrink-on sleeves and cable ties.
“An example of the Solarflex solutions is Helukabel’s Solarflex-X
PV1-F solution specifically for the solar industry which is able to with-
stand the harsh environments of solar plants exceedsTÜV, CE, Rohs
and VDE quality certifications to ensure the longevity of installation
where it is used – which generally has an anticipated life of 25 years’
service,” says Hardus van Dyk, Helukabel SouthAfrica salesmanager.
All Solarflex cables are ozone, UV and weather resistant and are
highly resistant to chemical interference, as well as fire and abrasion.
In addition, the cables can be made in rodent resistant versions or
to customer’s exact requirements for specific sites. The bare copper,
tinned and finely stranded cable is double insulated with cross linked
Polyolefin while the outer sheath comprises the same material in a
black, red or blue. The nominal voltage of this particular cable is rated
at 600/1 000 Vac and 1 800 Vdc. Other
requirements unique to solar energy
applications have also been researched
and Solarflex-X PV1-F cables have been
developed to enhance the operational
efficiency of these sites.

The newCAN-Bus High-Endurance cable presented by HRADIL Spezi-
alkabel GMBH in Bietigheim is a hybrid cable and has been specially
designed for moving applications in extreme environments. It is
meant for use aboard heavy-duty machinery in open-cast mining and
road construction work. Here, extreme mechanical conditions such
as vibrations and high tensile loads conspire to make life hell for the
cables.While
HRADIL
’s cable consists of three separate cables ‘rolled’
into one it has a cross-section of just 23,6 mm. Compared with other
conventional single cables it is also far more resilient and durable.
The HRADIL CAN-bus High-Endurance Cable fulfils three different
functions: in addition to real-time control via CAN bus and monitor-
ing and safety tasks via Gigabit Ethernet, it can also supply motors
and different applications with voltages of up to 300 V through six
cores of 3 x1,5 mm² each. HRADIL’s CAN-Bus High-Endurance Cable
can be shipped at short notice.
Engineers at Hradil have demonstrated great resourcefulness and
care, selecting materials and designing solutions which guarantee
that the HRADIL CAN-Bus High-Endurance Hybrid Cable withstands
the most extreme mechanical stresses e.g. vibrations, shocks and
tensile loads. All three cable assemblies, the CAN bus, power supply
and the Cat7 Ethernet cable are protected by their own jackets made
from a special easy-glide material.
