Fiber cable attacks
There were reports of vandalism to
Suddenlink’s fiber optic cable in Humboldt
County, California, through March. The
first attack occurred on 8
th
March, with
a fourth attack reported by 13
th
March.
Suddenlink has estimated the repair costs
to be approximately $10,000 per site. The
vandalisms have occurred in the Ferndale,
Trinidad and Bayside areas.
Suddenlink is offering a $5,000 cash reward
for the arrest and conviction of those who
are responsible for these crimes.
This is an on going investigation and the
Sheriff's Office is working to identify a
suspect or suspects and to prevent further
vandalism and interruptions to Suddenlink
services. The attacks highlight the
vulnerability of both cables and services
and, consequently, those who depend
on them.
