The Lapa Solar Park in the north-eastern state of Bahia in
Brazil has begun operation – twomonths ahead of schedule.
Enel, through its Brazilian renewable subsidiary Enel Green
Power Brasil Participações, invested $175m in the project
which is designed to generate some 340GWh per year, and
is the first of four contracts awarded to the company to go
live this year. The full story can be found on page 9.
Southwire has launched a new multi-strand aluminum
cable, said to offer installation, cost and safety advantages
that make it particularly suitable for down tower wind
turbine applications.
Multi-strand aluminum cable is more flexible than similar
aluminum cables and, because of its flexibility, the cable
can be connected to the electrical access boxes inside a
tower without needing an extra splice and connector. Costs
are reduced by the use of aluminum, which is generally
cheaper than copper. The cable has been tested with the
standard oils used in wind turbines. You can read the full
story on page 12.
