SOLICITORS' APPRENTICES' DEBATING SOCIETY OF IRELAND

The closing meeting of the 58th Session took place on Tuesday 19th

May 1942 in the Solicitors' Buildings, Four Courts, Dublin. The Auditor

Mr. O'Sullivan presided.

The Minutes of the previous meeting having been read by the Record

Secretary were signed without alteration.

The Balance Sheet was-'read by the Treasurer Mr. Russell. It showed

that almost £400 had passed through his hands, leaving it in a sound

financial position, all debts owing by and to the Society having been dis–

charged. On the proposal of Mr. Dowling seconded by Mr. Collins the

Balance Sheet was adopted.

The Auditor then read his report on the affairs of the Society.

On his own behalf and on behalf of the members he paid tribute to the

late Secretary of the Incorporated Law Society, Mr. F.G. Wakely, whom, he

said, was one of the greatest friends of the Debating Society. He con–

gratulated the new Secretary, Mr. E.J. Plunkett and wished him many happy

years in his important office. He also expressed his warm appreciation

of the practical interest which Mr. G.^. Overend, President of the

Incorporated Law Society of Ireland, took in the affairs of the Society.

Mr. OVSullivan then went on to thank his hardworking Committee and the

members of the House for their loyal co-operation during the session.

On the proposal of Mr. O'Byrne, seconded by Mr. Boyd, the Report was

adopted unanimously.

list of names of members who had received and returned the Ballot

papers was read by the Record Secretary. The results of the elections

of Officers and Committee for the session 1942-43 was then declared as

follows :-
