Y

ou'd think that the second film

directed by the maker of the brilliant

Jin-Roh

would be a bloodfest, but in

fact

A Letter to Momo

is one of the most

heartwarming films you're likely to see this

year. Still reeling from the recent loss of her

father, 11-year-old Momo and her mother move

from the bustling heart of Tokyo to the small

seaside town of Shio, where Momo befriends

three Yokai named Iwa, Kame and Mame.

Interestingly, Iwa brims with Sengoku-style

gravitas thanks to the vocal efforts of Toshiyuki

Nishida – Pigsy from

Monkey

!

The power of music is beautifully

showcased in

Your Lie In April

, with part one

hitting shelves in August... not April. Missed

opportunity if you ask me, but I digress.

Genius pianist Kousei finds himself no longer

able to tickle the ivories following the death

of his mother. The monotony of everyday life

seems to cloud his beautiful brain until he

meets an intriguing, eccentric and short-fused

violin prodigy named Kaori. For those with a

little extra coin in their purse, there is a limited

edition release available with a beautiful art

box and six art cards included.

Tokyo Ghoul

is one of the standout anime

series of recent years and one of my personal

favourite ongoing manga series to boot, so the

release of the complete second season,

Tokyo

Ghoul Va

is cause for celebration. Gory, blood-

soaked celebration. Remember when Kaneki

was a sweet and innocent ghoul, turned in an

unfortunate event? Yeah, those days are over.

After weeks of relentless torture he is every

bit the monster that he once loathed. This

release is available on DVD and Blu-ray as well

as in a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack.

Also available this month are

Black Butler:

Book of Murder, the Berserk Movie Collection,

Nanana's Buried Treasure Complete Series,

ANIME

ROUND-UP

Gosick

How the heck do you say it? Is it

goss-ick? Is it go-sick? Well I'll tell

ya, it's how you'd pronounce 'gothic'

in Japanese... kinda. The silly part is

that if you actually said "gothic" in

Japanese, it'd come out "goshikku."

4

Madlax

This is a completely personal dislike. It's

just... this title sounds like something

that helps you poop easier.

3

Puella Magi Madoka

Magica

What a mouthful! The original title,

Mahou Shojo Madoka Magica,

translates to Magical Girl Madoka

Magica, but why use English when

you can use Latin? Let go. It's a dead

language, along with Aramaic and 1337

speak!

2

The Severing Crime Edge

I kinda get it. I mean, I know what all of

those words are, I just don't understand

what they're doing next to each other.

1

The Legend of the

Legendary Heroes

Double the legend, double the the. I'm

quite sure this tale has been told at

many a drinking establishment at 2am

on a Saturday.

A Letter to Momo

With

Ghost in the Shell: The

New Movie

dropping this

month, I thought I'd look at

questionable titles, some

of which actually belong to

some really good series!
