center networks and SANs with today’s
base-8 quad small form factor plugable
transceivers. This capability results in 100
percent fiber utilization, streamlined 1:1 port
mapping, and up to 50 percent reduction
in link attenuation by eliminating the need
for conversion modules. Edge8 modules also
offer a 30 percent improvement in insertion
loss, resulting in longer duplex link distances.
Corning’s Edge solutions help operators
maximize available space, with optical
cables so light and compact that just one
cable can replace as many as 72 copper
cables, and they consume about 25 percent
of the power per port of copper, saving
money and reducing heat.
Single twist strander
Bartell Machinery Systems is set to ship the
first of a new single twist strander machine.
The machine, capable of producing large
industrial electrical transmission cable for the
power utility industry, is scheduled to leave
for China in August.
Company president Patrick Morocco
explained
that
Bartell
technology
“Shapes and pre-forms wire during the
manufacturing process and significantly
improves theelectrical transmissionproperty
of the cable, thereby reducing the overall
material required for the finished product.”
The new stranding machine is digitally
monitored
and
controlled
via
a
programmable logic controller and a
menu-driven touch screen that guides the
operator at each stage of operation.
Mr Morocco said in a statement: “Our ability
to design, engineer, and manufacture
advanced industrial machinery that
competes in a worldwide market is a
testament to our skilled workforce, and to
the strong technical and manufacturing
base we have right here in central New
York.”
