Just in time, it seems, skiers on the slopes of Vail,
Colorado, will be able to hitch a lift up the slopes of
the ski resort on a new ten-person gondola, using a
20,000-foot steel rope cable built by ArcelorMittal.
The new rope has to meet demanding conditions
and be able to survive extreme weather conditions,
some 8,500 feet off the floor. Built near Lyon,
France, the cable – weighing in at some 172,000lb
–made its journey wrapped around a reel 12 feet in
diameter and 10 feet wide. Full story is on page 10.
Charity coffers at the Make-A-Wish Foundation,
the American Cancer Society and the American
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals were
boosted in December – thanks to the generosity
of Allied Wire and Cable. The company made a
donation when a percentage of sales throughout
themonth was donated to the three charities. They
say charity begins at home and it's great to see
these worthwhile associations being supported.

the size of two football pitches in New York. Once
operational early this year, the plant will provide
