Annual Meeting
February 11–15, 2017
NewOrleans, Louisiana
National Lecturer: Eric Betzig
Housing Opens: March 14
Each day was organized either around a specific
disease or area of biophysics. The meeting brought
together a broad range of experts whose fields
ranged from crystallography to Cryo-EM to mo-
lecular biology. The majority of speakers focused
their presentations on their work against tubercu-
losis, malaria, or HIV/AIDS.
The meeting also served as a platform to fa-
cilitate discussion both during and in-between
sessions. Of the 103 attendees, 33 students from
South Africa were also able to attend. This was
an exceptional setting for students, who would
not normally have direct access to authorities in
such diverse areas of biophysics, to learn from and
interact with experts in biophysics. Furthermore,
several speakers report that the meeting stimulated
the development of new collaborations.
The meeting’s organizing committee members
included
James Sacchettini
, Texas A&M Univer-
sity, United States, and
Trevor Sewell
, University
of Cape Town, South Africa.
