All eyes on China market
Although Chinese cable makers claim around 32 per
cent of the global market share, industry watchers
believe that its domestic cable market, of over 7,000
cable plants, is in need of consolidation to boost
margins and international competitiveness.
“We see China at a point of consolidation, with
standards and quality becoming very important,” said
Gregory Kenny, president and CEO of General Cable
Corp.
Mr Kenny said his
company is figuring out
where, in China, General
Cable should part-
icipate. The copper,
aluminium and fibre
optic wire and cable
producer is looking to
enlarge its presence in
the China cable market.
The global cable market
is valued at $175 billion,
with China’s 32 per cent market share being the largest.
Mr Kenny added that his company has a sales target of
$7 billion in 2013, anticipating that 35 per cent will come
from emerging countries.
