Known as BeckryTex 351, the coating was recently introduced to
the local market by global coil and industrial coating specialist
company, Beckers Industrial Coatings and provides coil and sheet
coaters with an ultra-low gloss finish which is ideal for architectural and
decorative purposes.
According to Beckers’ managing director (sub-Saharan Africa), Willemvan
Heerden, thus far the coating has proven popular north of our borders due
to superb finish that closely resembles real concrete tiles or textured natural
cladding. In many instances the surface is also being adopted on building
interiors for office applications such as furniture and architectural finishes.
Simpler solution
“On roof tiles for example, instead of adding chips, sand, adhesive,
colourants to the coating, manufacturers can instead use the wrinkle finish
coating which has 100% adhesion and can be pre-coated onto coils for
use by manufacturers.
“This makes it extremely durable and coatings applied in this manner are
not susceptible to wear in the same manner that chips and sand become
dislodged from the actual surface. In addition the application is a simple
one-step process just like any other coil or sheet plating process and does
not require further steps after the initial coat.
“Its strength comes from the fact that it is actually a high-gloss coating
that appears to be matt due to the texture (wrinkles) in the paint. These are
available in rough, medium and fine textures depending on the manufac-
turers requirements and can be used to provide a premium feel to items
coated in this manner,” says Van Heerden.
Opportunity to simplify
He adds that best-of-all, the BeckryTex 351 coating is economically priced
and represents an opportunity for roof manufacturers in South Africa who
currently use sand, chips etc, to simplify their operations. Switching to Beck-
ryTex 351 will allow these manufacturers to produce roofing that is ultra-du-
rable, attractive, less complex and more economical than existing methods.
“It also represents an opportunity for architects and interior designers to
specify natural looking and durable coating to interiors of buildings in the
form of cladding, paneling, furniture and more,” concludes Van Heerden.
ROOFING
Standing Seam is a category of profiled
metal sheeting where the side laps are
mechanically seamed for extra lock-
down onto concealed fastening mechanism.
It is part of a broader category calledCONCEALED
FIX roofing, in which a concealed fixing device
is used to secure the sheet from under the side
NEW TEXTURED PAINT TAKES AFRICA BY STORM
A wrinkle-finish paint that adds natural texture to
metal roof tiles, cladding and decorative surfaces
is in demand by specifiers and architects across
the country due to both its aesthetic appeal and
durability under harsh African conditions.
