G

round zero for many gamers worldwide,

Super Mario

B

ros

changed the face of video games back in the

1

980s. On first glance a basic platformer, it was actually

a

seriously challenging experience, requiring all manner

o

f ability-mastering to beat and save that ever elusive

p

rincess. Wii U peeps have had this to play with for

a

while, but now

Super Mario Maker

gets portable. It

remains quite self-e

xplanatory though, allowing users to create their own

Marioiffic worlds and

share them locally or via StreetPass. Tired of creating?

Assail over 100 built-in levels, or take on the myriad works of others from

3DS and Wii U. It’s-a creativity, Mario!

SUPER MARIO MAKER 3DS

Ru

h-roh! It’s the night of the dawn of the day of the plague

of

the resident living, walking, evil dead! While it’s easy

to

be zombied out,

Dead Rising

is one of the best undead

thin

gs ever, be it movie or game. This fourth iteration

has

much to live up to, but the crafty goodness of its

pre

decessors is present and accounted for. Just like Ash

Wi

lliams, our hero Frank West is, of course, raring to have a

slash. But it’s Chris

tmas, so those undeadies will be busy downing eggnog

with their families? Yeah, sure... Frankie gets plenty of photo ops – and

crazy weapons to wield – as literally thousands of shamblers invade at

once. Come get some!

Forget playing in a sandpit, for here you’ve got a whole

mountain!

Steep

takes things to the extreme – TO THE

EXTREME!!! – as you strap on various accessories.

Stop sniggering, we’re talking skis, a wingsuit, a

snowboard or a paraglider. Rather than your typical

snowbound experience where you’re told to go that

way really fast on predefined courses, here you’re

free to do what you want. Take it easy, or go for full-on

stunts. With gloriou

s vistas, secret areas and the ability to team up with

other intrepid types from all over the world, you may go arse over tit more

often than not, but hey, you’ll do it your way!

Station’s history bulges with classic one-off experiences.

But

few come bulgier than PS2 game-changers

Ico

and

Sha

dow of the Colossus

. Their father, Fumito Ueda, is

sca

rcely prolific, but when he and his Team Ico start work on

a ne

w game, we pay attention – and we’ve now been doing

so s

ince 2007, when

The Last Guardian

was first mooted for

PS3

. With clear bloodlines to its predecessors, you control

a yo

ung lad who befriends a giant griffin-like bird/mammal

thingy named Trico. With guards hot on your tails, your aim is avoidance,

utilising Trico’s size and other animalistic qualities to solve puzzles, while also

caring for him like a pet. Prepare for feels...
