Reliance Business Systems Ltd., the Cork based Wang computer dealers, have opened their new Dublin offices
at 2 LEESON PARK, RANELAGH, DUBLIN 6 .
Reliance were one o f the first computer suppliers to be included in the booklet of

produced b y th e TechnologyCommittee o f the Law Society back i n 1986 .
The Dublin office will concentrate exclusively on the legal market, providing legal firms in the Leinster area
with the latest in Word Processing, Expert Systems, Computerised Accounting and Time Recording o n both
PCDOS an d XENIX.
Although Wang computer dealers, the emphasis in their Dublin office will b e very much o n software, an d
we understand from Bill Kelly the manager o f the Dublin office that all Reliance software i s available o n al l
IBM compatible computers.
The main software products available from Reliance which may be o f interest to the profession are as follows:
Computerised legal accounting and time recording from Optimus Computing o f London. Th e Optimus
package meets all the accounting requirements as laid down by the Technology Committee of the Law Society.
The Optimus system has been o n sale i n Ireland for the past five years and i s perhaps the most widely sold
computerised legal accounting package i n the country. Full installation, training and support i s provided b y
Reliance from both their Dublin an d Cork offices.
The other major areas o f specialisation are word processing and expert systems. Here Reliance combine
with Software Laboratories o f Bray t o providesophisticated

geared t o the specific needs o f
individual legal offices.
Reliance also provide th e fullrange o f Wang word processing systems.
In a n interesting development Reliance, i n conjunction with Software Laboratories i n Bray and Optimus
Computing o f London, ar e providingtelephone modem support fo r their multi-screen clients. Using th e
telephone modem allows the Reliance support staff t o connect directly t o the client's computer, across th e
telephone line.
Apparently all Reliance software packages are available on both the PCDOS and XENIX operating systems,
and growth paths exist t o allow users transfer from DOS t o XENIX.
