The following was among the business transacted:

International Bar Association

THE Council considered a report from a Committee

on an invitation received from the American Bar

Association to the Society to send a representative

to a meeting to be held in New York to discuss the

formation of an International Bar Association.

The proposed objects of the Association are to

establish and maintain friendly relations among the

lawyers of the world ;

to advance th e science of

jurisprudence and the study of comparative law;

to promote uniformity of legislation in certain fields

of law ;

to further the diffusion of knowledge of the

legal systems of the various countries of the world ;

to contribute to the establishment of law and the

administration of justice under law among

the

nations of the world ;

to give support, specifically

in the field of law to the principles and aims of the

United Nations Organization;

to

establish

a

meeting ground for those who practise or may

practise before the International Court of Justice.

The Secretary reported that he had been in com–

munication with the Department of External Affairs

about the matter. The Council directed that a letter

should be written to the American Bar Association

stating that the Council welcomes in principle the

proposal to extablish an International Bar Associa–

tion and will be pleased to receive further infor–

mation on the subject.'

Proposed Amendment in Trustee Law

THE Secretary read a letter from the Department of

Justice asking that the Council should set up a

special Committee

to make suggestions

to

the

Department on the following matters: (i) the

proposed consolidation of the legislative provisions

now in force dealing with the range of investments
