that annual certificates

should be taken out and duty paid thereon not

later than 5th February, 1947. A certificate stamped

after February 5th must be produced to the Society

within one month after date of stamping.

If not

so produced within the said period the certificate

will take effect as a qualification to practise only

from the date when it is produced.

Apprentices' Fees

THE Secretary

reported

that

the Committee

mentioned in Section 57 of the Solicitors (Ireland)

Act, 1898, as amended by the Solicitors (Ireland)

Act, 1898, Adaptation Order, 1946, had made a

regulation increasing the fees payable by apprentices

and intending apprentices to the Society, and that

the new regulation, which would not affect persons

already bound under

indentures or who had

petitoned to be so bound, would take effect as from

2nd December, 1946.

Estate Duty Office

THE

Secretary

read

correspondence with

the

Controller of Death Duties in which the latter had

agreed that in cases where the Commissioner of

Valuation raises no question on the value of pro–

perty as returned for death duty purposes, the

solicitors

for

the personal

representatives will

be notified

thereof. As forms will have

to be

printed for this purpose, the Controller stated that

some interval will elapse before the new practice

could be brought into operation.
