New Lecturers
ON a report from the Court of Examiners the
Council appointed Mr. R. W. Roche Johnston,
LL.B., of
20 St. Stephen's Green, Dublin, as
lecturer on conveyancing and Mr. Desmond A.
O'Connor, of 140 St. Stephen's Green, Dublin, as
lecturer on general practice.
Law Clerks Joint Labour Committee
ON a report from the Legislation and Privileges
Committee the Council approved draft representa
tions from the Society on the subject of the proposed
recommendations to the Labour Court issued by
the Joint Labour Committee on zand June. The
Council also considered a report from the same
Committee on a query from a member as to whether
the reference to first and later years of employment,
in the various scales of wages, refer to employment
in a solicitor's office, particularly in regard to
Typists and Shorthand Typists.
It was ordered
that the member be informed that the construction
of the order is a matter for individual solicitors,
and in the last resort, for a Court of Justice, but,
subject thereto, the opinion of the Council is that
the reference to years of employment means years
of employment in a solicitor's office.
