25 FALLOUT FACTS

1

2

The events of the Fallout series

occur during the 22nd and 23rd

centuries.

Fallout follows a world that,

post-World War II, never saw the

invention of the transistor. This

resulted in the Resource Wars, with

countries competing for energy

sources, and the “Great War”

in 2077 saw a two-hour nuclear

exchange that levelled most of

North America.

Bethesda have the rights for an

MMORPG adaptation of Fallout,

although whether or not it’s

actually undergoing production is

a mystery.

Only 122 Vaults were ever built

in the Fallout universe, in

comparison with the 400,000 that

were initially planned.

Some of these Vaults had their

usually self-sustaining conditions

altered as a sort of social

experiment on the dwellers;

some were exposed to diseases,

others the open wilderness, and

others still housed heavily

disproportionate amounts of men

and women.

Bottlecaps are the common form of

currency in Fallout’s Wasteland.

Fallout Shelter

is the first mobile

app from Bethesda that allows

you to be the Overseer of your

own Vault and its inhabitants, and

debuted at #1 in the App Store and

on Google Play.

Fallout 3

won Best of Show at E3

2008.

Hellboy

’s Ron Perlman voices the

Narrator in all the Fallout titles.

The Regular

Show

’s Courtenay

Taylor voices the female

protagonist of

Fallout 4

, while

Brian T. Delaney voices the male.

The Gun Runner Gunsmiths

of

Fallout: New Vegas

bear a

remarkably close resemblance

to the main characters of

Mythbusters.

During production on Fallout 3,

there were plans for a surgery

mini-game that would allow you

to patch yourself up if you got

too injured. This was abandoned,

however, when the devs thought it

would slow down the game too much.

In

Fallout 2

,

Fallout Tactics

,

Fallout 3

and

Fallout: New Vegas,

you can go cow (Brahmin) tipping.

Most of the wrecked cars seen

scattered around the landscapes

of Fallout are based on the Ford

Nucleon; a concept car that would

have had a steam engine powered

by uranium fission.

Liam Neeson voices the player’s

father in

Fallout 3.

The Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting

System (VATS) was prototyped by

artist Grant Struthers by filming

his

Incredibles

action-figures

fighting.

Fallout: New Vegas

’ Robobrains are

voiced by Wil Wheaton.

There is a gnome figurine in New

Vegas directly modelled after lead

world builder Scott Everts.

Dogmeat in

Fallout 4

cannot die.

You can come across a TARDIS from

Doctor Who

on your travels that

will slowly dematerialise as you

get closer.

If Officer Kenny dies in the

original

Fallout

, you will

hear “They killed Kenny! Those

bastards!” as a reference to

Kenny’s many deaths in

South Park.

One of the thugs guarding the

Brotherhood Initiate prisoner on a

quest will occasionally say, “Have

you ever danced with the devil in

the pale moonlight?”, just as the

Joker did in

Batman.

Fallout 3

contains a quest called

“A Nice Day for a Right Wedding”,

a nod to the Billy Idol Song.

There’s a perk called Escalator

to Heaven.... we shouldn’t have to

explain that one.

Fallout 4

’s huge open world will

be more than twice the size of

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s

, and will

contain more than 111,000 (yes, you

read that right) lines of dialogue

- more than

Fallout 3

and

Skyrim

combined.
