The expression “clean-cut” did not originate in a tube

mill, but it might well have. A precise, immaculate

cut, with minimal detritus, has been the ideal since

tubing was first offered cut-to-length. That this quickly

became an achievable goal attests to the importance

accorded the cutting operation from the earliest days

of the tube and pipe industry.

Only a perfectly cut or sawn end will serve the

purposes of peristaltic pumping, medical diagnostics

and therapeutics, and remotely piloted aircraft. Just

as materials, dimensions, and tolerances preside at

the beginning of the production cycle for such high-

end applications, repeatable and precise cutting is the

essential means to a satisfactory ending.
